Canon Pixma IP1900 - Inexpensive Start-Up Printer
One of the Canon's latest printers in the entry segment is the Pixma iP1900 which has recently caught on too much attention because of its pricing. When it was launched in the market last year, it carried a price tag close to £80 but now Canon is offering the same printer on their website for under £25 which is a discount of 70% off the original price.
Being an inexpensive printer, it is aimed at homes and the printer offers a best resolution of 4800 X 1200 dpi. Its ink droplet size is at 2pl which is the double of the latest Canon photo printers. Pixma iP1900 works on Canon patented ChromaLife100 system which is fairly equivalent to a lab quality print.
Unlike most of its photo printers, Canon uses two cartridge system on this one. Apart from the black cartridge, cyan, magenta, yellow and photo black and packaged into a single cartridge.
Printing speed is decent at 13 pages per minute for monochrome prints at normal mode while the colour prints are rated at a speed of 8 pages per minute in the same mode. The printer takes close to a minute to spit out 4" X 6" borderless photographs.
For an entry level printer, the connectivity option is basic with a USB port and is totally acceptable. But, the lack of a PictBridge port and memory card readers makes it a single dimensional printer that does not give users the choices they would probably need. Being a under £25 printer, the lack of basic functionalities still isn't a big concern. With two cartridge system, the price per print is bound to be steep and could well work against the printer.
